About Us

The Past
  • Autumn 1979. Birth of 'the London Practice in the Country'. Patrick McCloy, who was then in partnership with Brian Harris in London's West End, decided to move to the country. The aim was to provide a first class legal service reflecting the expertise and ethos of a central London practice to a local and wider community.
  • Bradford on Avon in Wiltshire was identified as a prime location for the new practice. Well served by an excellent travel network, it provided a base for a quality legal practice, of real benefit to the surrounding locality, but also serving a wide and varied London client base.
  • The advance of technology was embraced by the practice, facilitating both national and international expansion over a number of years.
The Present
  • We remain committed to the concept of 'the London Practice in the Country', providing a first rate legal service to our all of our clients, wherever they may be.
  • We continue to serve our substantial client base in London, in conjunction with our associate practice, Brian Harris & Co.
  • In recent years we have developed an established clientele in the Principality of Monaco and the Cote d'Azur, providing English legal advice to members of the local and expatriate communities with business in the United kingdom.
  • Our legal services are, through on-line and related methods, available in an increasing number of jurisdictions and we see this ongoing expansion of our services to overseas clients as one of our main areas of targeted growth.
  • Our professional team (please click on the 'Our People' tab) provides a comprehensive legal service (please click on the 'Fields of Practice' tab) for both business and personal clients.
  • We have long-standing relationships with leading barristers’ chambers, and locally based lawyers in a wide number of jurisdictions, who are available to provide additional specialist advice at short notice when required.
  • From our experience of representing overseas clients, we are aware that legal transactions in a foreign country are daunting. We can assist by providing translation services and help with practical advice on travel and accommodation arrangements.
The Future
  • In April 2011, the provision of legal services will be de-regulated by the Legal Services Act 2007. Household names will enter the legal market and will, we believe, represent a significant threat to the traditional legal practice.

    We will be:
  • well placed to face the challenges that lie ahead through the steps that we have taken to expand our geographical base.
  • committed to the continued provision of a traditional legal service to all of our clients both locally and wherever they may be.
  • continuing to develop the use of new technology as a means to offer our services to clients on-line and on a multi-regional basis.
